Bible Basics is a Scripture memorization program designed to encourage families to begin the habit of memorizing key Biblical passages. Practice of the Bible Basics primarily takes place at home; however, Sunday School of Discipleship teachers will encourage and help kids when they can. The Bible Basics is a place to start in developing a lifelong habit of hiding God’s Word in our hearts.
At the Mills Church, we believe that as families memorize God’s Word together, the practice will help them to recognize God’s voice in their lives, encourage them to seek Him at all times, and bring to mind His love and truth during times of need.
On Sunday mornings, kids may recite their Bible Basic to their Sunday School of Discipleship teacher. When they have recited it correctly, they will be presented with the corresponding medal, usually the following Sunday.
Kindergarten & 1st Grade
For the kindergartners and first graders, each Bible Basic memory verse coordinates with the monthly unit of study. Each memory verse is set to song, practiced, and reviewed during the worship portion of the School of Discipleship hour. A Bible Basics medal can be earned for each of the nine verses below. A medal can also be earned when a child says the Old Testament books of the Bible and the New Testament books of the Bible in order from memory. The books of the Bible are also practiced to song during the worship segment. Kids receive a medal with a blue ribbon for New Testament verses, yellow ribbon for Old Testament verses, and a blue and yellow striped ribbon for the books of the Bible.

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by Thy name,
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.
Amen

5. Honor your father and mother.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil;
For you are with me; your rod and staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
